��'s iGEM team wins 1st Place at 2023 iGEM Grand Jamboree

The Department of Bioengineering is proud to announce that �� iGEM won Grand Prize at the 2023 iGEM Grand Jamboree –- the top world-wide student competition in synthetic biology. Our outstanding iGEM team won against 400+ competitors and became the first ever Canadian team to win the Grand Prize at the iGEM Jamboree in 20 years, and after only its second consecutive year of participation. In addition to placing first, they also were awarded Special Prizes incuding: Best Therapeutics, Best Part Collection, Best Presentation.

In the cell, organelles, proteins, and signalling molecules are transported to specific locations along a network of filamentous tracks. Specialized enzymes called motor proteins bind to cargoes and move along the network by converting the chemical energy of ATP into mechanical work. The microtubule cytoskeleton consists of filaments that span the cell and serve as tracks for motor-based intracellular transport.
