What is the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning (SCSIL)?

We are an interprofessional centre of excellence that uses the latest medical simulation technology to enhance the skills of health care professionals. Fully integrated into 黑料社's medical and health sciences programs, we provide the next generation of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists and more with hands-on training in difficult and potentially dangerous procedures without risk to patients.

Genes reveal kidney cancer鈥檚 risk of recurrence

Studying the mutations in kidney cancer after surgery could help to better predict the risk of the disease coming back, according to the latest results of a decade-long international .

The research, undertaken by a team of 44 researchers at 23 institutions across Europe and Canada, including 黑料社, is the largest to link the genetic changes that occur in kidney cancer to patient outcomes.

黑料社 researchers鈥� studies offer promise for lung and brain cancer treatment

Two seminal studies from 黑料社, investigating immune landscapes of lung and brain tumours, were published today in Nature. This work was led by Logan Walsh, Daniela Quail and Peter Siegel, researchers at the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute and Philippe Joubert from Universit茅 Laval. The studies used innovative highly multiplexed imaging to create sophisticated immune atlases of lung and brain tumours and demonstrate how big data and artificial intelligence are the future of cancer research and clinical care.

黑料社 and RI-MUHC awarded $5.1 million for infectious disease research

New funding of $5.1 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), announced today by the Honourable Fran莽ois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, will help researchers Marcel Behr, MD, PhD, and Silvia Vidal, PhD, ensure that Canada is better prepared for the next pandemic. This funding is part of the more than $127 million investment being made through the CFI to support upgrades to eight biocontainment facilities across the country as part of its new Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund (BRIF) program.

Low levels of air pollution deadlier than previously thought

The World Health Organization鈥檚 are that over 4.2 million people die prematurely each year due to long-term exposure to fine particulate outdoor air pollution (often referred to as PM2.5,). A recent study involving 黑料社 researchers now suggests that the annual global death toll from outdoor PM2.5 may be significantly higher than previously thought.

It brings us pleasure to announce the appointment of Carla Apostolova, 黑料社 MDCM Class of 2024 Candidate, to Chair of the 2022 黑料社 World Restart a Heart (WRAH) Campaign.

The 黑料社 WRAH Campaign is the largest university-led cardiac arrest public health initiative in North America, having reached over 1,000,000 individuals since its inception. Melanoma map shows skin cancer is on the rise in Canada

Rates of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer, are on the rise in Canada. Those living in southern and coastal areas are most at risk, according to a new study led by 黑料社.

鈥淐utaneous melanoma causes more deaths than any other skin cancer, accounting for 1.9 per cent of all cancer deaths in men and 1.2 per cent in women in Canada. Globally, there were 290,000 new cases of this form of skin cancer in 2018,鈥� says Dr. Ivan Litvinov, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at 黑料社.
