This has had a wide range of negative environmental and social impacts. However\, transport systems which focus on public transit and “active” transport (walking and cycling) are uniquely situated to address a wide range of societal goals including reducing GHG emissions and other pollutants at the same time improving he alth and safety. While cities have begun to embrace a move towards a new m obility paradigm\, the path towards sustainable and inclusive transport sy stems has a number of technical\, political economic and societal barriers .\n\nIn this 2nd Annual Sustainable Transportation Roundtable\, two key th emes will be discussed: 1) rethinking streets and 2) overcoming barriers t o better public transport. The first theme will involve a keynote from Tom Flood who brings his experience in advertising to reframe how we talk abo ut traffic safety. A panel discussion follows with new perspectives on tra ffic safety\, equity\, and how the think about streets. Following lunch\, student researchers from and Polytechnique Montréal will present on diverse topics related to transport and cities. Finally\, a pa nel will discuss overcoming barriers to better public transport.\n\nWe sin cerely appreciate Alstom's generous support in making this event possible. \n\nDate: Tuesday\, April 22\, 2025\n Time: 9:30 AM - 17:00 PM \n Location: Armstrong building\, Room 365/370\n\nRegister for the event Agenda\n\n\nAg enda\n\n9:30 - 10:00 | Arrival and Coffee\n \n 10:00 – 10:15 | Opening Remar ks by\n Representative from the Sustainable Growth Initiative (SGI)\n Kevin Manaugh\, Associate Professor jointly appointed to the Department of Geogr aphy and the Bieler School of Environment\n Representative from Alstom\n \n 1 0:15 - 11:00 | Keynote Speech by Tom Flood (Presentation in English)\n \n 11 :00 - 12:15 | Panel #1 ‘Rethinking Streets’\n Marie-Soleil Cloutier (INRS) \n Stephanie Watt (Metalude)\n Victoria Gay-Cauvin (Ville de Montreal)\n Zoe Poirier-Stephens (Ville de Montreal)\n Shabnam Abdollahi (Polytechnique Mon treal)\n \n 12:15 – 13:15 | Lunch\n \n 13:15 – 14:15 | Graduate Student Lightn ing Talks\n Shabnam Abodollahi\n Pegah Salsabilian\n Arturo Jasso Chavez\n Fré déric Cournoyer\n Ella Osdoba\n Lexi Kinman\n Jeremy de Sousa\n Zahra Zarabi\n Mohammad Nikkhah\n Sadie Cambrey\n Alessia Vinet\n Thiago Carvalho dos Reis S ilveira\n Priyanka Verma\n\n\n 14:15 – 14:45 | Coffee\n \n 14:45 – 16:00 | Pan el #2: Public transport - “Overcoming barriers to implementation”\n Zahra Z arabi (Oxford University)\n Genevieve Boisjoly (Polytechnique)\n Chris Hardi ng (ARTM)\n Sophie Mauzerolle (Élue\, Ville de Montréal)\n Laurence Lebel (A tkinsRéalis)\n \n 16:00 - 17:00 | Closing remarks & Networking\n\nAbout Tom Flood\n\n\n\nTom Flood worked in advertising for many years on a wide rang e of clients including corporate brand work for automotive manufacturers.
