  University of Wisconsin in Madison 1991\n\n\nHis research areas include:
 \n\n\n	education policy and curriculum\n	inclusive education\n	gender and edu
 cation from a feminist poststructuralist perspective.\n	teaching and learni
 ng in upper secondary schools in Iceland.\n\n\nIng贸lfur 脕sgeir J贸hannesson
  is a member of the Nordic Center of Excellence Justice Through Education 
 in the Nordic Countries.\n\nThis presentation provides a brief overview of
  the education system in Iceland. Then it proceeds to discuss two particul
 ar topics that relate to social justice in education systems. \n\nFirst\, 
 how the inclusive education ideals of the UNESCO鈥檚 1994 Salamanca Statemen
 t and Framework for Action on Special Needs Education have been implemente
 d and played out in the education system in Iceland. \n\nSecond\, Iceland 
 has since 2009 scored as the most gender-equal country on the World Econom
 ic Forum鈥檚 Global Gender Gap Report. However\, education about gender and 
 queer issues has only been low on the agenda of most schools in Iceland al
 though there is in recent years a remarkable initiative in upper secondary
  schools. \n\nThe presentation offers a discussion on gender studies educa
 tion as well as queer studies in the Icelandic school system.\n\n聽\n\n聽\n
