We provided one-time cash transfers of about USD 1000 to over 10\,500 poor households across 65 3 randomized villages in rural Kenya. The implied fiscal shock was over 15 percent of local GDP. We find large impacts on consumption and assets for recipients. Importantly\, we document large positive spillovers on non-re cipient households and firms\, and minimal price inflation. We estimate a local fiscal multiplier of 2.7. We interpret welfare implications through the lens of a simple household optimization framework.\n DTSTART:20200120T210000Z DTEND:20200120T223000Z LOCATION:Leacock 927\, Leacock Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2T7\, 85 5 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Johannes Haushofer (Princeton)\, “General equilibrium effects of ca sh transfers: experimental evidence from Kenya” URL:/economics/channels/event/johannes-haushofer-princ eton-general-equilibrium-effects-cash-transfers-experimental-evidence-keny a-305559 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
