ML crucially improved our understandi ng of big data in the past decade and led to many essential technologies i n our daily lives\, such as speech recognition\, recommender systems\, and personal assistants. In this workshop\, you will learn about principles o f machine learning and gain practice in implementing them for the real-wor ld problems. We will start the workshop by implementing a fundamental mach ine learning algorithm known as multi-layer perceptrons to gain intuition about how machines learn. Then\, we will cover optimization and regulariza tion techniques to learn the underlying principles of machine learning and discuss how we can make algorithms more intelligent.Prerequisite(s)- Fami liarity with Python (i.e.\, used Python and wrote couple scripts before)-  Basic understanding of calculus and linear algebra (i.e.\, knowing what a matrix and derivative is)- Study the pre-workshop exercise (Intro to Googl e Colab & Pytorch\, estimated time: ~35 - 60 mins)System/Installation Requ irements: We will do the workshop exercises on Google Colab. Colab is a Ju pyter Notebook-like environment running on your web browser developed by t he Google Research team. So\, the only requirement for the workshop is hav ing a Gmail account and being signed in to your Gmail account on your pref erred web browser.  **IMPORTANT NOTICE: Attendance for ºÚÁÏÉç graduate stu dents and postdoctoral fellows is subsidized by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. All other attendees such as undergraduate students\, interns and/ or graduate students from other institutions are required to purchase a ti cket to cover organizational and staffing costs. To complete your registra tion\, you must e-transfer $10 (undergraduate student/trainee) $25 (staff) or $100 (faculty) to workshop-micm [at] mcgill.ca within 24 hours of RSVP 'ing to this event. If we do not receive your e-transfer\, you will have g iven up your spot.Online Event InstructionsMyInvolvement pages are for in- person attendees only.
