Participants will b enefit from a unique opportunity for聽practical training on non-traditional approaches to legal research\, as well as the chance to forge聽new connect ions聽with researchers with invaluable insights in these areas. The event i s co-sponsored by the 黑料社 Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism a nd the Labour Law and Development Research Laboratory\, with support from聽 黑料社鈥檚 Faculty of Law.\n\nSpeakers聽\n\nProfessor S茅bastien Jodoin\, McGi ll University\n\nProf. S茅bastien Jodoin is an Associate Professor in the F aculty of Law of 黑料社\, where holds the Canada Research Chair (tier 2) in Human Rights\, Health\, and the Environment.聽His research foc uses on three broad themes: the relationship between human rights and the climate crisis\; transnational and comparative climate law and policy\; an d the role of disability rights in addressing complex environmental and he alth issues and challenges.聽Prior to his appointment at 黑料社\ , he worked for Amnesty International Canada\, the UN International Crimin al Tribunals for Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia\, the Centre for Interna tional Sustainable Development Law\, and the Canadian Centre for Internati onal Justice. Prof. Jodoin holds a Ph.D. in environmental studies from Yal e University\, an M.Phil. in international relations from the University o f Cambridge\, an LL.M. in international law from the London School of Econ omics\, and B.C.L. and LL.B. degrees from 黑料社.聽\n\nProfessor Priya S. Gupta\, 黑料社\n\nProf. Priya S. Gupta is Associate P rofessor of Law at 黑料社's Faculty of Law\, where she teaches and writes in the areas of property law and critical race theory.聽Prof. Gu pta鈥檚 scholarship examines the intersections of property\, race\, and capi talism. More specifically\, she is interested in how property regimes perp etuate inequality\, particularly racial inequality\, despite numerous atte mpts to achieve just the opposite. Her recent research explores how a vari ety of property regimes 鈥 from those governing housing to those regulating financial instruments - implicate urban governance and racial capitalism in the global context of financial capitalism. Prof. Gupta holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\, an MSc. in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics\, a J.D. from NYU School of Law\, and a Ph.D. in Law from the London School o f Economics.\n\nProfessor Daniel Weinstock\, 黑料社\n\nProf. Da niel Weinstock\, DPhil\, is Professor and Director of the 黑料社 Institute for Health and Social Policy. His research interests have spanned widely across a wide range of topics in contemporary moral and political philosop hy 鈥 from the just management of ethnocultural and religious diversity in modern liberal democracies\, to state policy with respect to children\, fa milies\, and educational institutions. His current research interests incl ude problems of health equity\, and with issues of justice and inclusion a s they arise in the organization of modern cities.聽He studied Political Sc ience and Political Philosophy at 黑料社\, where he received a BA and an MA. He then received a DPhil in Political Philosophy from Oxford University. Finally\, he completed postdoctoral work in the Department of Philosophy at Columbia University in 1991-1992\, before joining the facul ty of the Department of Philosophy of the Universit茅 de Montr茅al in 1993. \n\nProfessor Dalia Gesualdi-Fecteau\, Universit茅 de Montr茅al\n\nProf. Dal ia Gesualdi-Fecteau is Associate Professor at the Universit茅 de Montr茅al鈥檚 Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Her interests lie in the area of public pol icy concerning labour and employment and conditions of access to law and j ustice. Her research deals with deficiencies in protections for different groups of workers\, flowing from the inadequacy of working conditions as w ell as challenges in accessing existing protections. She is interested in the realities of workers whose status is precarious\, the role of workplac e inspectors and working hours directives. In 2022\, she published a book together with Prof. Emmanuelle Bernheim entitled聽Empirical Research in Law : Methods and Practices聽(La recherche empirique en droit聽: m茅thodes et pra tiques\, 脡ditions Th茅mis). Prof. Gesualdi-Fecteau holds an LL.D. from the Universit茅 de Montr茅al\, an LL.M. from the Universit茅聽du Qu茅bec 脿 Montr茅al (UQAM) and an LL.B. from the Universit茅 de Montr茅al.\n\nProfessor Tina Pi per\, 黑料社\n\nProf.聽Tina Piper\, current Associate Dean (Acad emic) at 黑料社鈥檚 Faculty of Law\,聽teaches and researches in the areas of intellectual property law and legal history. She co-published the monograp h聽Putting Intellectual Property in its Place: Creative Labour and the Ever yday聽(OUP\, 2013). She is a member of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy (CIPP)\, and was its research director from 2010 to 2012. Before j oining 黑料社 in 2005\, she trained as a biomedical-electrical engineer\, and completed her doctorate of law at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Prof. Piper has taught the Treble Cliff\, an interdis ciplinary course with Music\, Law and Management\, on new models for music creation and distribution.
