Cracking the Code of Pre-Harvest Sprouting

Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) is a major global issue affecting cereal crops like wheat and barley. It occurs when grains begin to germinate on the plant before harvest due to environmental triggers like moisture and humidity, combined with genetic factors such as low seed dormancy. This premature sprouting degrades starch, reducing grain quality and leading to significant economic losses鈥攅stimated at $1 billion globally, and $100 million annually in Canada.

Canned soup giant Campbell's has come under fire for engaging in "maple washing" 鈥 a marketing tactic where foreign-made products are falsely associated with Canada through the use of maple leaves or vague labels like 鈥淒esigned in Canada.鈥 This misleading practice gives consumers the impression that products are Canadian when they are not.

Radio-Canada reports on 15 years of 黑料社 Feeding 黑料社

For 15 years, 黑料社 dining halls have been serving up fresh, local produce grown by students at Macdonald Campus as part of their agricultural and environmental sciences programs. Last year alone, 3.4 tons of tomatoes and almost 2 tons of onions ended up on students' plates thanks to the 黑料社 Feeding 黑料社 initiative.

July 9 | Planned electrical shutdown at Macdonald Campus Library

Facilities Management and Ancillary Services will be performing a major electrical shutdown at Macdonald Campus Library on Wednesday, July 9, from 6 h to 12 h. The Macdonald Campus Library in the Barton Building will be inaccessible at this time. This shutdown is necessary for maintenance on the Hydro-Qu茅bec substation and four transformers servicing the south side of campus.
