Curr ently\, we are facing a trilemma for agricultural production systems in wh ich there are three almost equally undesirable alternatives: (1) shortage of food\, (2) shortage of resources\, and (3) degradation of the environme nt. The controlled environment engineering principles in collaboration wit h the multidisciplinary team have emerging opportunities for improvement o f yield and quality of food with less resource consumption and environment al degradation. This seminar will address the prospects of urban agricultu re for future food demand and the future research needs to address the cha llenges in urban agriculture and plant production systems. The presentatio n will be concluded by highlighting the research plans for sustainable/reg enerative urban agricultural systems.\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n\nMd Shamim Ah amed is currently working as a Research Engineer at Nortek Air Solutions\, Saskatoon\; he is also affiliated as an Assistant Professor in the Depart ment of Farm Power and Machinery at Bangladesh Agricultural University. He also worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Concordia University and the City University of Hong Kong. Dr. Ahamed received his Ph.D. from the Universit y of Saskatchewan in Environmental Engineering\, Master of Science in Farm Power and Machinery\, and Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering from Bangl adesh Agricultural University. Dr. Ahamed’s research mainly focuses on ene rgy modeling and energy-efficient design for the next-generation agricultu ral built-environments. His research area also spans on automated fault-de tection and diagnosis of buildings HVAC systems using machine learning-bas ed algorithms.\n\nMd Shamim Ahamed is a candidate for the faculty position in Urban Agriculture & Plant Production Engineering.\n DTSTART:20200313T140000Z DTEND:20200313T140000Z LOCATION:R2-046\, Raymond Building\, CA\, QC\, St Anne de Bellevue\, H9X 3V 9\, 21111 Lakeshore Road SUMMARY:Urban Agriculture: Prospects and Challenges for Future Food Product ion in Controlled Environments URL:/macdonald/channels/event/urban-agriculture-prospe cts-and-challenges-future-food-production-controlled-environments-321085 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
