Plenary Lecturer“Stem cells\, embryos and embryo models”\n\n Janet Rossant\, CC\, PhD\, FRS\, FRSC is Senior Scientis t and Chief of Research Emeritus at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toro nto and President and Scientific Director of the Gairdner Foundation. She is an internationally recognized developmental and stem cell biologist\, e xploring the biology of the early embryo and its stem cells and their appl ications to understanding and treating human disease. She has also been ac tively involved in ethics and public policy discussions around stem cell r esearch and genetic modifications. She led the Research Institute at the H ospital for Sick Children from 2005 to 2015. She has received many honors and recognition for her work\, including six honorary degrees\, and electi on to the Royal Societies of London and Canada and the US National Academy of Sciences. In 2018 she received the N. American L’Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science Award and in 2021 the ISSCR Achievement Award.\n\n\n\n Dr. Barry Z irkin\, Clermont Lecturer“Reduced Testosterone by Aging Leydig Cells: Mech anisms\, Prevention and Treatment”\n\n Barry Zirkin\, PhD\, is Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The research in the Zirkin lab has cen tered on three main areas: Leydig cell aging\, Leydig cell development fro m stem cells\, and spermatogenesis regulation. To date\, Dr. Zirkin’s lab has published about 275 scientific papers. For 25 years\, he was Head of t he Division of Reproductive Biology at Johns Hopkins. He is the recipient of teaching and mentorship awards from the Johns Hopkins School of Arts an d Sciences and School of Public Health. He was President of the American S ociety of Andrology\, and prior to that received its Distinguished Service and Distinguished Andrologist awards. He was the recipient of a MERIT Awa rd from National Institute on Aging of the NIH.
