The presentation will introduce the state of the art of NMR applications in official wine control. Principles of qua ntification of ingredients including determination of site-specific stable isotope ratios (deuterium) on the one hand and the progress of non-target ed approaches on the other hand will be discussed. Quantitative Deuterium NMR spectroscopy\, also called SNIF-NMR (Site Specific Isotopic Fractionat ion) has been implemented for official control purposes 30 years ago and a llows the detection of chaptalization. Due to technical improvements also 1H-NMR spectroscopy was established in wine control. Non-targeted approach es rely on the comparison of NMR spectra of actual samples with those of r eference samples in data bases\, which are representative for the specific food commodity\, here wine\, by sophisticated multivariate data evaluatio n workflows. Data acquisition techniques and data preparation procedures\, but also challenges and hurdles in cooperation and harmonization are high lighted.\n\nThe event is virtual and will take place over Zoom.\n\nZoom li nk \n\n\n About the speaker\n\nDr. Carsten Fauhl-Hassek\n\nDr. Carsten Fauh l-Hassek is a food chemist and works at the department for Safety in the F ood Chain of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) in Ger many. Since 2021 he is temporally assigned as co-head of the department\, in addition to heading the unit Product identity\, Supply chains and Trace ability. He has special expertise in authentication of food and feed\, win e analysis and appreciation\, method development and validation (ring tria ls). Dr. Fauhl-Hassek is also head of the Senior Expert Office for the Imp ort Control of Wine and designated expert for the European Wine Databank f or stable isotopes. Since almost 20 years he is national delegate and expe rt in the sub-commission of analysis of the International Organization of Wine and Vine (OIV). Dr. Fauhl-Hassek is involved in national as well as i nternational research projects and leading expert in non-targeted analysis employing different analytical techniques such as NMR spectroscopy. In ad dition\, in the past he was involved in the risk assessment of mycotoxins and responsible for the National Reference Laboratory for Mycotoxins in Fe ed and Food.\n DTSTART:20230525T153000Z DTEND:20230525T163000Z LOCATION:Zoom SUMMARY:Food Authenticity Seminar Series: Application of NMR Spectroscopy i n Wine Control URL:/macdonald/channels/event/food-authenticity-semina r-series-application-nmr-spectroscopy-wine-control-348185 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
