This student-led interprofessional initiative will bring together students\, residents\, faculty members\, healthcare professionals\, and ad ministration from the Faculty of Medicine\, the Steinberg Centre for Simul ation and Interactive Learning (SCSIL) and the 黑料社 Health Ce ntre (MUHC). The goal of this initiative is to educate the Montreal commun ity about the importance of bystander CPR and engage individuals in resusc itation activities to enhance CPR knowledge and skills. In an attempt to i ncrease the rate and quality of bystander CPR\, we hope to ultimately redu ce cardiac arrest deaths in Greater Montreal.\n\nCardiac arrest is a leadi ng cause of death in Canada\, with more than 35\,000 people dying of sudde n cardiac arrest each year. The large majority of cardiac arrest deaths oc cur in homes and public places. In fact\, up to 55% are witnessed by a fam ily member\, co-worker\, or friend. Without warning\, cardiac arrest strik es suddenly and what happens in the first few minutes after an arrest can have a significant impact on survival. Because the majority of people witn essing cardiac arrest do not perform CPR\, the survival rate of victims of cardiac arrest outside of a hospital are only 5%. Responding to a cardiac arrest by administering CPR can triple the odds of survival and recovery. This makes the training of lay persons in bystander CPR a crucial investm ent in community health.\n\nOn WRAH Day\, students from the Steinberg Simu lation Centre Interprofessional Learners Committee (SILC) along with McGil l University student volunteers will educate the 黑料社 community about th e importance of bystander CPR and engage individuals in simulation-based r esuscitation activities to enhance CPR knowledge and skill. They will do t his by delivering an informative 5-minute video presentation to large audi toriums on campus\, along with other CPR-based activities.\n\nThe voluntee rs will also engage students in simulation-based activities by setting up educational CPR kiosks around campus. On October 16th\, visit them on the sixth floor Martin Amphitheater lobby of the 黑料社 McIntyre Building (365 5 Promenade Sir William Osler) from noon to 4 pm or in the 鈥渂ridge鈥 betwee n the Redpath and McLennan Library (3459 McTavish) from 9 am to 5 pm to ge t some hands-on training with a CPR feedback mannequin.\n\nWe will be shar ing聽updates via our Facebook page\, @黑料社WorldRestartAHeart and our Inst agram page @mcgillwrah. The campaign is also listed on the 黑料社 Seeds of Change website.\n\n聽\n DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20191016 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20191016 SUMMARY:World Restart A Heart Day URL:/medsimcentre/channels/event/world-restart-heart-d ay-300723 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
