BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:-//132.216.98.100//NONSGML kigkonsult.se iCalcreator 2.20.4// BEGIN:VEVENT UID:20250903T113635EDT-7758hetnVA@132.216.98.100 DTSTAMP:20250903T153635Z DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we welcome Dr. Sarah Purkey from the Lamont-D oherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University for her seminar titled 'Re gional and global rates of ocean mass addition between 1996-2006 from a fu ll-depth sea level rise budget'.  Refreshments will be served.\n\nAbstract \n\nOver the past three decades the deep ocean has warmed and freshened\, possibly linked to a slowdown in the bottom limb of the Meridional Overtur ning Circulation.  These deep steric changes are an important contributor to current sea level rise (SLR) rates but are often either ignored or left as an error in most SLR budgets.  Here\, I present a full-depth SLR budge t using full-depth in-situ ocean data and satellite altimetry centered bet ween 1996 and 2006.  The SLR rates for this period are compared to regiona l and global trends in ocean mass addition estimated directly using data f rom the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) from 2003–2013.  D espite the different time periods and spatial coverage reflected in the tw o independent methods\, both capture the same large scale mass addition tr end patterns and suggest a global mean trend of ocean mass of 1.5 (±0.4) m m yr-1.  Further analysis with the residual method shows the error introdu ced into the mass budget if the deep steric contributions below 700\, 1000 \, 2000\, 3000\, and 4000 m are neglected are 65%\, 38%\, 13%\, 8% and 4% respectively.  These findings reinforce that the deep ocean can not be ign ored in regional and global SLR budgets.\n DTSTART:20160307T203000Z DTEND:20160307T213000Z LOCATION:Room 934\, Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Seminar: Dr. Sarah Purkey URL:/meteo/channels/event/seminar-dr-sarah-purkey-2594 91 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
