 006 through a generous gift from Canadian philanthropist Seymour Schulich.
  The $25\,000 First Prize is awarded by a special committee of internal an
 d external jurors at the Schulich School of Music to an undergraduate\, gr
 aduate or diploma student in the Schulich School of Music who demonstrates
  exceptional potential in the String Area. For the 15th edition\, the Firs
 t Prize was increased to $30\,000. The 16th edition saw additional generou
 s scholarship offerings by the Schulich Foundation. The finalists who plac
 e second and third will each receive $15\,000 and $5\,000 respectively\, i
 n commendation of their performance and participation in the Schulich Scho
 ol of Music community. \n\nThe Golden Violin\, made of pewter and gold pla
 te\, remains on permanent display in ºÚÁÏÉç’s Marvin Duchow Music Library.
  Its recipient\, chosen by jury and a rigourous selection process\, receiv
 es a generous scholarship\, valued this year at $30\,000 as well as a smal
 ler likeness of the violin in the form of a 14-karat gold lapel pin. Read
