A warm welcome to new students

Orientation sessions foster sense of connection and belonging

The energy and excitement were palpable as first-year students at all levels gathered for Orientation events during the third week of August. In-person sessions for graduate students were held at the Ingram School of Nursing while Bachelor of Science in Nursing students and those in the On Campus stream of the Bachelor of Nursing Integrated program (BNI) met at The Neuro’s Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre. A virtual orientation session was held for the Bachelor of Nursing Integrated Online stream.

β€œOne of my greatest pleasures as Director of the Ingram School of Nursing is the opportunity to engage with enthusiastic, dynamic students who come together in a spirit of openness and curiosity, eager to explore new concepts and gain new skills and competencies,” noted Associate Dean and Director Lynne McVey, who was on hand to welcome each cohort. She described the many rewards of a career in nursing and encouraged students to make the most of their time at ΊΪΑΟΙη. β€œAt the Ingram School of Nursing, you will learn how to develop clinical reasoning, how to work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team, how to advocate for your patients, your communities and the nursing profession, and how to lead with confidence.”

Prof. McVey advised students to take advantage of the opportunities to stretch themselves in new ways, to be open to conversations with people whose points of view may differ from their own, to make new friends and to have fun.
