DESCRIPTION:Dr. Charles Gyan is currently an Assistant Professor of Social 
 Work at the Faculty of Social Work\, University of Regina. He holds a Mast
 er of Philosophy degree in Social Work from the University of Ghana and a 
 PhD in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. His practice experienc
 e has been in the areas of community organizing\, social policy analysis\,
  and program development and evaluation. Dr. Gyan blends academic and rese
 arch interests with his interest and commitment to Social policy change\, 
 transnational social work practice and community development. \n\nDr. Gyan
 ’s presentation\, Gasping for Breath: Women’s Concerns & the Politics of C
 ommunity Development in Rural Ghana\, will focus on the experiences of wom
 en within the context of community development in rural Ghana. Following a
 n overview of his program of research\, he will present the key findings o
 f his recent transnational feminist study on the barriers faced by women i
 n community development processes. The presentation will conclude with imp
 lications for community development programing\, policy and research and t
