Short Bio

Dr. Nitish Boodhoo obtained his BSc in Animal Biology (2009) and MSc in Immunology (2013) from the University of Guelph, Canada. He them moved to United Kingdom, where he earned his PhD in Avian Immunology (2018) via Reading University. In 2019, Dr. Boodhoo returned to Canada to undertake a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Guelph, Canada. He joined the Department of Animal Science at 黑料社, Canada as an Assistant Professor in 2025. His interests primarily lie in studying host鈥損athogen interactions, with an emphasis on understanding gut health and resistance mechanisms to both zoonotic and poultry-specific pathogens within a One Health framework.

Active Affiliations

Adjunct Professor (Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Canada)

Research Interests

My research program is centered on advancing the understanding of gastrointestinal health in avian species, with a particular emphasis on the intricate mechanisms by which the intestinal immune system detects, interprets, and responds to diverse pathogenic challenges. The determinants of disease resistance versus susceptibility will inform the rational design of next-generation vaccines, probiotic formulations, and other immunomodulatory interventions. Ultimately, our objective is to fortify the health and productivity of poultry while mitigating the transmission of zoonotic agents along the poultry value chain, thereby reinforcing both animal and public health security.
