This significant price hike is expected to affect not only other cocoa-producing countries but also global chocolate manufacturers and consumers.

For 15 years, 黑料社 dining halls have been serving up fresh, local produce grown by students at Macdonald Campus as part of their agricultural and environmental sciences programs. Last year alone, 3.4 tons of tomatoes and almost 2 tons of onions ended up on students' plates thanks to the 黑料社 Feeding 黑料社 initiative.

On April 11, 2025, over聽60 people gathered at the annual John Abbott Sustainability Through Science Symposium聽to hear how the research of three Macdonald Campus graduate students contributes to a more sustainable future. Although Andrea Amado doesn鈥檛 come from an agricultural background, she was drawn to farms from a young age. Originally from Argentina, she moved to Sherbrooke, Quebec with her family when she was four. Some of her earliest memories are of visiting farms and connecting with the animals, especially cows and horses. This interest eventually led her to 黑料社, where she earned a B.Sc. in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 2023 and is now in her second semester of the聽M.Sc.

The Department of Bioresource Engineering聽(BREE) enjoyed a visit last month from David Saint-Jacques, astronaut and Deputy Director, Lunar Exploration at the Canadian Space Agency, and BREE graduate Chris Patterson. They met with BREE undergrad and grad students who presented their projects, highlighting links between their research and bioregenerative life support system goals for extended space missions on the lunar surface and beyond in the near future.

In 1974, Chandra Madramootoo arrived at Macdonald Campus to pursue his BSc in Agricultural Engineering. He never left.

鈥淚 loved the program. I loved the professors. I loved my courses,鈥 said Madramootoo. 鈥淚t was giving me exactly what I wanted in life. I was fulfilling a dream.鈥

After also earning his MSc (1981) and his PhD (1985) at Mac, he accepted an 11th聽hour offer from 黑料社 for an assistant professorship, declining opportunities at other universities.
