Minor in Entrepreneurship at ºÚÁÏÉç Desautels

The program focuses on an entrepreneurial mindset to see opportunity in the world and provide training in an entrepreneurial method to bring opportunities for change to life. This program takes a democratized approach to entrepreneurship, with exposure to the diverse manifestations of entrepreneurship in the world including but not limited to new ventures, social enterprise, tech start-ups, cooperatives, corporate venturing, side hustles, and passion projects.

This minor is open to*:

  • Agricultural and Environmental Science students
  • Arts students
  • Kinesiology and Physical Education students at the Faculty of Education

Students in Engineering, Music and Science must consult with their home faculty. More details are available on our Minors in Entrepreneurship at other facultiesÌý·É±ð²ú²õ¾±³Ù±ð.Ìý

*Students that are currently pursing a Minor in Entrepreneurship offered by your home faculty can continue with the current minor and do not need to apply to the Management version. The course list remains the same. Advising for course registration will be handled by the BCom Office.


Admission Requirements

  • All students should consult with their faculty or departmental advisor before applying, to ensure that they are meeting their faculty rules and restrictions concerning the maximum number of credits taken outside of their home faculty and their eligibility to complete the minor.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 24 graded credits completed at ºÚÁÏÉç before applying.
  • Applicants must have a minimum CGPA of 3.00 (this does not guarantee acceptance).Ìý
  • Completing management courses prior to admission will not have any influence on your application. Any management courses completed prior to being admitted may count towards the minor.
  • May not be pursuingÌýor have completed a Minor in Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management, Marketing or Operations Management (for Non-Management students).
  • Students pursuing a Joint Honours Economics Finance or Accounting cannot pursue the minors offered by Management.
  • StudentsÌýentering U3 or their final year:Ìýthe minor is meant to be completed inÌý4 terms due to prerequisite courses. Priority will be given to U1 and U2 students. You will be asked to provide a study plan.Ìý

Deadline

  • Applications are due by June 1, replies should start going out in July - early responses are not given.
  • Students will be informed via their ºÚÁÏÉç email address concerning their application.
  • Once you are admitted in the Minor, we will help you register into courses, where possible, to ensure you are not delaying graduation.

About the Minor

  • The minor is composed of 18 credits.ÌýWe do not accept double counting of courses.
  • 6 credits maximum that can be transferred from any institutionÌýother than ºÚÁÏÉçÌý(exchange, study away, etc). Please consult with the BCom Student Affairs office.Ìý
  • Courses counting towards the minor cannot be taken under the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory option. Courses for the minorÌýmust be passed with grades of C or better.
  • Courses completedÌýthrough the School of Continuing Studies will not be allowed toÌýcount for theÌýminor.

Students currently registered in a Minor

  • Students inÌýAgricultural and Environmental Science, Arts orÌýKinesiology and Physical Education that are currently pursing a Minor in Entrepreneurship offered by their home faculty can continue with the current minor and do not need to apply to the Management version.     Description

    The ability to select and manipulate genetic material has led to unprecedented interest in the industrial applications of procaryotic and eucaryotic cells. Beginning in the 1970s the introduction of and subsequent refinements to recombinant DNA technology and hybridoma technology transformed the horizons of the biopharmaceutical world. This course will highlight the important events that link basic research to clinical/commercial application of new drugs and chemicals.

    Full-time work-term intended to complement the student's undergraduate studies. Course work will be graded by a Faculty member with expertise relevant to the student's area of study. Finding a work placement is the responsibility of the student and facilitated by the Faculty's Internship Office.

    Concepts and skills relevant to establishing new or managing existing business ventures in the agricultural, bioresource engineering, environmental, and food sectors (agri-food and agribusiness). Business organization, overview of current organizations in these sectors, business partnership, as well as understanding the market structure, niche markets, and opportunities. New product development, customer values, raising start-up capital, and different business strategies are explored.
