Overview:

In this workshop, we will explore the fundamental concepts of creativity and how they are conceptualized in the context of artificial intelligence. We will highlight the critical challenges of defining core concepts such as novelty and utility; key elements in understanding what constitutes acceptable and qualitative creativity. This discussion will naturally lead to an exploration of how cultural perspectives shape and redefine AI-driven creative processes. Furthermore, we will delve into the intricate relationship between creativity and ethics, underscoring the importance of establishing guidelines for AI-generated creativity. Finally, we will dive into a specific case discussing the legal framework surrounding patents for innovations made by AI. By focusing on a series of applications and cases from selected countries, we will examine how patent offices and courts handle AI-created inventions, the reasoning they apply, and the key points they emphasize.

At the end of this workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • Quick introduction with examples of AI creativity and how Generative AI as LLMs works.
  • What does creativity mean in a generative AI context.
  • How AI is applied for enhancing creative capacity.
  • What are the challenges and inherent limitations to apply generative-AI for creativity.
  • What are the legal aspects in patent applications of AI generated inventions.

Prerequisites:

  • You must bring your own laptop for this workshop.
