On Campus Work

Definitions:

What does On-Campus Work聽mean?

  1. On-campus work is defined as occurring at employment facilities within the boundaries of the campus.
  2. According to Immigration Canada:聽
    "On-campus work is defined as occurring at employment facilities within the boundaries of the campus."
  3. Refer to the official website for detailed definitions and complete information.

What are Full-Time studies?

The definition of Full-Time studies depends on the type of degree program. The criteria for each are listed below:

  1. For Undergraduate Students:
    1. Minimum Requirement: 12 credits per term.

    2. Exceptions:

      • Scheduled breaks (e.g., Reading Week, Summer).

      • Final term before graduation when you are聽permitted to register part-time and still maintain working privileges.

  2. For Non-Thesis Masters Students:
    1. Minimum Requirement: 12 credits per term.

    2. Exceptions:

      • Department-scheduled breaks (confirm with your department, if unsure)

      • Final term before graduation when you are permitted to register part-time and still maintain working privileges.

  3. For Graduate Thesis (Masters, PhD) students:
    1. Requirement: Registered full-time in every academic term, including Summer,聽regardless of the number of credits per term.

    2. Note: Thesis programs do not have scheduled breaks.


Eligibility Criteria:

Who is eligible?

  1. Students registered in full-time studies聽黑料社 degree, certificate, diploma students, visiting/exchange students, and who have a valid study permit.

  2. To work during scheduled breaks, students must be registered full-time before and after scheduled breaks.

Who is NOT eligible?

  1. Students who do not have a valid Study Permit (for example 1 term exchange/visiting students who only have a visitor status).
  2. Students registered part-time (unless it's their final term of study and they have otherwise maintained full-time status for the duration of their program of study).

Required Documents:

  1. A Valid study permit.
  2. Social Insurance Number.
  1. If you are a 黑料社 degree-seeking student:
    1. Your study permit will likely include conditions and/or remarks that clearly state that you are eligible to work on or off-campus if you meet the eligibility requirements.
    2. This will be necessary in order to be able to apply for a Social Insurance Number.
  2. If you are a 黑料社 degree-seeking student, and your Study Permit does not include a reference to your eligibility to work on or off-campus:
    1. You can submit a to your study permit in order to be able to apply for a Social Insurance Number.
    2. The Request to Amend can only be submitted by mail - there is no fee for this request -and you can check the required.

If You're Eligible and Have the Required Documents:

How many hours can you work?

  1. The number of hours is not specified by Immigration Canada.
  2. You may work an unlimited number of work hours during an academic term and scheduled breaks.
  3. However, please note that Study Permit holders must be "" - i.e., "making continuous progress towards the completion of their degree".
  4. Also, Immigration Quebec requires CAQ holders to remain for the duration of their studies.

    Where can you find work on campus?

    1. Find out if you're eligible for the work-study program (usually based on financial need) run by the Scholarships & Student Aid Office (SSAO)
    2. Look for the Student & Summer Jobs on campus聽page run by the Career & Planning Service (CaPS) including the research opportunities.听
