Late course additions

Changes to your course registration after the add/drop deadline are only permitted in exceptional circumstances.

How to request a late course addition in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

  1. Get the professor鈥檚 permission to register.
  2. Check what coursework you have missed and need to catch up on.
  3. Resolve any holds on your student record preventing late course additions.
  4. Complete and submit the . Once it is reviewed by the Macdonald Campus Student Affairs Office, you will receive confirmation by email.
  5. If approved, a $50 processing fee will be charged to your student account in Minerva.

Course withdrawals

You may still withdraw from courses on Minerva without academic penalty for a period after the add/drop deadline. There are two deadlines for withdrawal (the earlier one allows for a full tuition refund).

If you withdraw, you will receive a grade of W, which does not affect your CGPA. In most cases, a W (or even two) on your record will not have a significant impact on your post-graduate plans. You may register for the course again in a future semester.

Not attending classes without officially withdrawing will result in a grade of J (incomplete/failure), which counts as 0 (zero) in GPA calculations.

If you plan to reduce your course load to below 12 credits, you will be considered a part-time student in that semester. You should consult with your service providers to ensure that you meet the necessary course load requirements to maintain services, and keep documentation supporting this decision, should you need to justify your reduced course load to a service provider, immigration authorities, or graduate school admissions committee in the future.

If you are unsure about withdrawing from a course, you can always saoadvisor.macdonald [at] mcgill.ca (consult your faculty advisor) to go over your options.

University withdrawal

Withdrawing from all of your courses in any given term constitutes a university withdrawal and you will be considered withdrawn from the entire academic year (unless you apply for and are granted a leave of absence聽before the withdrawal with refund deadline).

If you plan to return to the university for any future term, you must apply for readmission. Your rate of tuition may be different from when you were last enrolled at 黑料社.

If you are registered for classes and wish to withdraw from the University before the , submit a request through Minerva. If you are not registered for any classes, use the University Withdrawal Request form on the Student Accounts website.

Late withdrawals

The Macdonald Campus Student Affairs Office may grant permission to withdraw from a course (or multiple courses) after the final withdrawal deadline for serious and well-documented extenuating circumstances such as an illness or death of a family member.聽Unsatisfactory academic performance alone is not a valid reason for a late course withdrawal.

Requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, considering the following:

  • Permission will only be granted under聽exceptional circumstances
  • Permission will not be granted retroactively (you must apply during the term in which you are registered for the course)
  • Supporting documentation is required
  • Repeat late withdrawal requests and requests for previously approved circumstances may be refused in future terms, depending on the situation

If you withdraw from聽all courses聽in a term, this is considered a university withdrawal.聽Late withdrawals from individual courses (as opposed to a whole term) will be carefully considered to ensure that the reason is truly relevant and limited to the requested course(s).

Approved requests will be assessed an administrative fee of $50.00. You may also receive a request to meet with the faculty advisor.
