Experts: Municipal elections

With voting already underway for the Nov. 2 municipal elections in Montreal and more than 1,000 other Quebec municipalities, ºÚÁÏÉç experts can comment on key urban issues.   

Transit, mobility and urban planning 

Ahmed El-Geneidy, Professor, School of Urban Planning and Director, Transportation Research at ºÚÁÏÉç, an expert in land use and transportation planning, can comment on topics related to public transit and urban mobility in Montreal. A recent study he co-authored measured the impacts of rapid bus transit in Montreal.

Richard Shearmur is a Professor at the School of Urban Planning with a background as a real estate consultant. He is an expert in municipal innovation and urban and regional development, and can discuss real estate, mobility and downtown planning, including office space and other urban workplaces.

Homelessness and housing 

Eric Latimer, Professor, Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational, can comment on topics related to health, homelessness services and policy, especially Housing First and its economic aspects.

Jayne Malenfant, Assistant Professor, Department of Integrated Studies in Education, can comment on topics related to homelessness, homelessness prevention, homeless youth, housing advocacy and rights.

Avi Friedman, Professor, School of Architecture, is available to discuss affordable housing, housing development, Montreal's urban development and sustainable developments.

Environmental sustainability and climate policy 

Kevin Manaugh, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, Bieler School of the Environment, School of Urban Planning, can comment on sustainable urban planning and development, including bike paths.

Christopher Barrington-Leigh is an Associate Professor who is jointly appointed at the Department of Equity, Ethics and Policy (School of Population and Global Health) and the Bieler School of Environment, as well as an Associate Member in the Department of Economics. He can discuss urban governance with respect to the environment and sustainability.
