Dr. Edward Holland
Edward J. Holland, MD, is the Director of Cornea Services at Cincinnati Eye Institute and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati.He attended the Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago and trained in Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. He completed a fellowship in cornea and external disease at the University of Iowa, and then completed a second fellowship in ocular immunology at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.He returned to serve as Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service at the University of Minnesota.He was promoted to the position of Professor and was granted the Elias Potter Lyon Chair in Ophthalmology. He also served as President of the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Holland formerly served as the President for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery from 2011-2012 and served as the Program Chair for 12 years.Dr. Holland was a former member of the Board of Trustees for the American Academy of Ophthalmology.Hehas also served on numerous committees and as the Secretariat of the Annual Meeting for theAmerican Academy of Ophthalmology.Dr. Holland has served as the Chair of the Eye Bank Association and was the former Chair of the Medical Advisory Board as well as a longtime member of the Board of Directors.He is the past President of the Cornea Society and previously served many years on its Board of Directors.
Dr. Holland has received numerous national and international awards including the Castroviejo Award from the Cornea Society. He has received both the Honor Award, Senior Achievement Award andLife Achievement Honor Awardfrom the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He was awarded the Binkhorst Medal and the Lindstrom Medal by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He was a recipient of the Paton Society Award given by the Eye Bank Association of America and was awarded the Asian Cornea Foundation Medal of Honor.
Dr. Holland has published extensively in both basic and clinical research and is the author of over 300 articles in peer review journals.Dr. Holland was the co-principal investigator of theCornea Donor Study, the largest clinical trial conducted in the field of cornea.He has co-edited five editions ofCornea, the most widely read textbook on corneal disease and surgery.
Dr. Holland serves as an ex officio member of the Holland Foundation.This organization’s vision is “To ensure those suffering from corneal blindness have access to life-changing treatments and lifetime follow-up care” and its mission is“To establish 'Centers of Excellence' that will provide patient access and sustainability of care for the treatment of corneal blindness.”

Dr. Deepinder Dhaliwal
Deepinder K. Dhaliwal, MD, L.Ac, is a professor of ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and serves as Vice Chair (for Communication and Wellness) and Chief of Refractive Surgery in the Department of Ophthalmology at the UPMC Vision Institute. Dr. Dhaliwal is also the Director of the UPMC Laser Vision Center, the associate Medical Director of the Campbell Ophthalmic Microbiology Laboratory and Clinical Co-Director of the Corneal Stem Cell Task Force at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Dhaliwal earned her medical degree from Northwestern University, and completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh. She then completed a prestigious fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Utah. She became a licensed acupuncturist in 2006 and founded the Center for Integrative Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh to systematically research holistic treatments for eye disease.Her other research interests include corneal regeneration, dry eye disease, ocular microbiology, and pediatric refractive surgery.
Dr Dhaliwal is passionate about leadership and service. She currently serves as the president of the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and is president-elect of the Cornea Society. As a recognized expert in her field, she is invited to teach corneal and refractive surgical techniques to ophthalmologists around the world. In addition to teaching and research activities, she has authored several book chapters, numerous journal articles, and serves on the editorial board of several ophthalmology journals. In recognition of her clinical and surgical skills, she has been selected as a “Top Doctor” by her peers every year since 2006, has received the Senior Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and has been twice selected to be on The Ophthalmologist Power List which recognizes the Top 100 in the world.
DR. SEAN B. MURPHY LECTURER
Dr. Anat Galor
AnatGalor, MD, MSPH is a professor of ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI), University of Miami and a staff physician at the Miami Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital. Dr.Galorruns the ocular surface pain program at BPEI and the Miami VA and has focused her research on understanding mechanisms of pain in dry eye, with an emphasis on studying new diagnostic and treatment modalities. She has lectured and published extensively on how nerve status may underlie the often noted disconnect between dry eye symptoms and signs. This includes individuals with decreased sensation and chronic epithelial abnormalities (neurotrophic phenotype) and individuals with hyper-sensitive nerves and chronic ocular pain with minimal ocular surface abnormalities (neuropathic/nociplastic phenotype). Over the years, she has participated in several dry eye related committees including the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) Dry Eye Workshop (DEWS) II Pain and Sensation Committee and the Dry Eye Awareness Month Congressional Briefing. In addition, she served as President of the Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group and sits on several educational committees within the Academy of Ophthalmology.
